Following the last-minute cancellation in 2024, the organisers are looking forward to hosting the 8th edition of the Almetal Marathon on Sunday, 19 October 2025. The marathon, which winds its way through the picturesque Almetal region, is being organised with the support of a total of 12 sports clubs along the route and promises a unique experience for runners.

As usual, the route runs from Büren-Ringelstein to the finish line at the Ahorn-Sportpark in Paderborn and offers endurance enthusiasts a choice of distances: in addition to the classic marathon, the ‘upper’ half-marathon from Büren-Ringelstein to Wewelsburg and the ‘lower’ half-marathon from Wewelsburg to Paderborn will once again be available. Teams also have the opportunity to compete in a 4 x 10.5 km relay.

The event is held under the patronage of District Administrator Christoph Rüther, who recognises the importance of this event for the region and for sport. “The Almetal-Marathon is a highlight for the entire region and offers an excellent opportunity to combine sport, nature and community,” said Rüther.

Registration for the Almetal-Marathon opens on Good Friday, 18 April 2025, via the official website www.almetal-marathon.de. Those interested can secure their place to take part from that date onwards.

SV Rot Weiß Alfen e. V., which has now taken over the lead organisation of the event, is looking forward to welcoming numerous participants and is confident of an exciting sporting event in October 2025. “When we heard that the run had to be cancelled last year due to organisational problems, we were very disappointed,” reports Thorsten Brinkmann, chairman of SV RW Alfen. “It takes a great deal of effort to coordinate the 12 participating sports clubs. But ultimately, this collaboration makes for a unique event across Germany. That’s why we were thrilled when our member Holger Hayn agreed to take on the coordination. This set the course for us to be able to offer the Almetal-Marathon on a permanent basis once again. The support from the organising clubs remains unwavering and we’re already looking forward to a great race,” Brinkmann continued.
