The project goes beyond simply increasing capacity. Around 90 percent of the new bicycle parking spaces will be covered, providing reliable protection from rain and other weather conditions. New lockers will also be installed, along with additional space for cargo bikes, charging points for e-bikes and a dedicated bicycle repair station. Visitors will therefore be able to carry out minor repairs and adjustments directly on site.

“Physical activity doesn’t only begin once you reach the sports facilities. Many of our visitors choose to cycle to Ahorn-Sportpark. We want to make sure they have good facilities from the moment they arrive and make travelling by bike even more convenient,” says Maren Richts, Sports Manager at Ahorn-Sportpark.

Cyclists will still have access to bicycle parking throughout the construction period. Temporary spaces will be provided between the first and second rows of car parking spaces, ensuring that visitors can continue to arrive by bike without having to look for alternative parking.

With the expansion of its bicycle infrastructure, Ahorn-Sportpark is taking another step towards becoming an even more bike-friendly sports facility. For many visitors, the journey to the sports park can now become the first part of their active day — before they even reach the sports field.
