On Sunday, 18 October 2026, Rot-Weiß Alfen e. V. will once again welcome running enthusiasts to the heart of the Almetal for the 9th Almetal-Marathon. Once again, the event promises a successful combination of sporting challenge and an impressive experience of the natural surroundings. It has long been firmly established in the regional sporting calendar and appeals to both ambitious runners and recreational participants.

The scenic route traditionally runs from Büren-Ringelstein to the finish at the Ahorn-Sportpark in Paderborn. Along the Almetal, participants can enjoy varied scenery that gives the marathon its distinctive character. In addition to the classic marathon distance, there are two half-marathon options: the “upper” half marathon from Büren-Ringelstein to Wewelsburg and the “lower” half marathon from Wewelsburg to Paderborn. The programme also includes a relay event consisting of four 10.5 km stages.

A standout feature of the Almetal Marathon is its organisation: a total of twelve sports clubs along the route join forces, making the event an impressive example of active club cooperation. This voluntary commitment creates a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that is appreciated by participants and spectators alike.

District Administrator Christopher Rüther is once again acting as patron this year. “The Almetal Marathon stands for sporting diversity, voluntary commitment and a unique running experience in our region,” emphasises Rüther, thereby underlining the event’s special significance for the district.

In addition to the sporting competitions, all participants can look forward to a lively atmosphere along the route, which makes the Almetal Marathon a special experience for the entire region.
