Partnership enables active break times at Gymnasium St. Michael

Pupils from St. Michael’s Grammar School are standing in the school playground in front of the calisthenics trailer. In the background is a school building, and the spire of Paderborn Cathedral can be seen rising above the roof of the building.

The Year 10 pupils completed their PE lesson at the calisthenics trailer.

Gymnasium St. Michael in Paderborn had the special opportunity to use the Paderborn District Sports Association’s mobile calisthenics trailer in the school playground for four weeks. This sporting highlight was made possible by a successful collaboration between Ahorn-Sportpark and Gymnasium St. Michael.

The mobile calisthenics trailer gave pupils the chance to spend their breaks actively and integrate physical activity directly into their everyday school life. Using the calisthenics trailer and various fitness equipment, pupils were able to improve not only their strength but also their coordination whilst learning new movement sequences.

Headteacher Mr Hildmann was delighted with the partnership: “We are very pleased to be able to offer our pupils such an attractive opportunity to take part in sporting activities through this partnership. Physical activity provides an important balance to everyday school life, and the mobile calisthenics trailer has raised awareness of physical fitness.”

“The initiative has shown how important sporting activities are in school and how easily they can be integrated into daily life. The partnership has not only boosted the pupils’ desire to be active, but also raised awareness
for a more active lifestyle,” adds Maren Richts (Sports Manager at Ahorn-Sportpark).

Overall, the four-week deployment of the mobile calisthenics trailer was a resounding success and an example of how partnerships in the sports sector can inspire pupils to take a lasting interest in exercise and fitness.
