The scenic route traditionally runs from Büren-Ringelstein to the finish at Ahorn-Sportpark in Paderborn. Along the Alme valley, participants can enjoy varied scenery that gives the marathon its distinctive character. In addition to the classic marathon distance, there are two half-marathon options: the “upper” half marathon from Büren-Ringelstein to Wewelsburg and the “lower” half marathon from Wewelsburg to Paderborn. The programme also includes a relay race comprising four 10.5 km legs.

One of the outstanding features of the Almetal-Marathon is its organisation: a total of twelve sports clubs along the route join forces, making the event an impressive example of collaboration between local sports clubs.
